Divorce up in Lamu, says registrar

CASES of divorce are on the increase, Ndau Island registrar of Islamic marriages and divorces Mohamed Fumo has said. Speaking to the Star on Thursday, Fumo said couples from Ndau Island in Lamu county have been visiting his office every day seeking divorce a few months after marriage. He said the cases increase before and after Ramadhan. Fumo said the trend is a sign of increasing instability in marriage and is a threat to the well-being of the society.
