A Thika man was yesterday jailed for a year for assaulting his mother. James Mbiyu, 39, pleaded guilty to strangling and hurling obscenities at his mother, Priscilla Wanjiku, on March 28. The court heard that Mbiyu came to their Makongeni home drunk and picked a fight with his sister Emma. Their mother intervened when he started twisting Emma's arms. Mbiyu then turned on his mother and started strangling her and calling her names. Senior principal magistrate Martha Mutuku gave him 14 days to appeal.
