During the international Labour Day celebrations, President Uhuru Kenyatta raised the minimum wage by 14 per cent. This means that that the minimum pay, currently Sh8,580 will be increased to Sh9,781. The President should be commended for this gesture. In way, President Kenyatta's move lends credence to his government's promise to spare no effort in its quest to improve the lives of Kenyans. Sh9,781 is, however, still a small amount of money, especially for those living in urban areas, given the ever-increasing cost of living.
