POLICE fired tear gas yesterday to disperse thousands of textile workers in Mombasa protesting poor working conditions in Changamwe. The protesters are from Ashton Apparel and MK Apparel Export Processing Zones. Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi and Textile and Tailors Workers Union secretary general Joel Chebii were among victims of the tear gas. The MP, the TTWU officials, and the employees retreated after the police barricaded the road leading to the company premises.
