THE government has been asked to establish a blood bank at the Kakamega Provincial General Hospital to serve the Western region. Speaking in Kakamega yesterday, Vihiga District Hospital medical superintendent Francis Odira said a blood bank will end over reliance on New Nyanza General Hospital for blood for transfusion to patients. “Major government-run hospitals in Western and Nyanza regions are experiencing an acute shortage of blood for transfusion because the one centre in Kisumu is not adequate,” said Odira.
