LAMU Residents want the state to build well-equipped hospitals. Siyu chief Ahmed Yunus said they also want qualified doctors and nurses hired. He said the entire location of 3,000 people depends on only one nurse who is rarely available at the Siyu dispensary. It is the only medical centre in Siyu. Resident Nassir Abdullahi said the state should build a maternity wing. Resident Arafa Athman said most locals cannot afford to hire a boat to take expectant mothers to the Lamu District Hospital. Boat hire can cost more than Sh5,000.
